Album Review: The Bad Plus, "For All I Care" (Do The Math/Heads Up)

New math or marketing ploy, this is actually " The Bad Plus +1," with the addition of vocalist Wendy Lewis, a longtime friend of the trio and a fixture in the Minneapolis alt-rock scene. "For All I Care" was partially inspired by the 1963 pairing of John Coltrane's quintet with vocalist Johnny Hartmann; as Plus drummer Dave King explains, "Coltrane's quartet had already developed a group language, and then they enlisted this incredible singer without changing the language of the band."  / Read more
