Built to Spill lines up fall tour following studio spell
Alt-rock quartet Built to Spill will mount an early fall headlining tour after emerging from the studio, fresh from working on a new album.
The Idaho-based band will kick off a 12-city US tour with two shows in San Francisco beginning Sept. 8. The outing involves multi-night engagements in three other cities: West Hollywood, CA (9/10-11), Philadelphia (9/20-21) and New York City (9/25-26). Details are below.
Following the US trek, the group will embark on a long European trip. Overseas dates can be found at the band's website.
Built to Spill continues to support its sixth studio album, 2006's "You in Reverse," which came five years after the release of 2001's "Ancient Melodies of the Future" and introduced guitarist Jim Roth and multi-instrumentalist Brett Nelson as full-fledged members of the group.
Guitarist/bandleader Doug Martsch recently told Billboard.com that the band has finished recording the basic tracks for its follow-up to "Reverse," a process streamlined by the band switching to the all-digital Pro Tools format instead of traditional analog tape.
"You have endless tracks, so [all three Built to Spill guitarists] can be in a room together and do five takes," Marstch said. "Then, hopefully somebody can go through it and find out what's good." The album is tentatively set for release next spring.
