Eminem talks comeback album as memoir hits stores
With his new memoir now on store shelves, Eminem has emerged this week from his recent reclusion to discuss plans for a new studio album, "Relapse."
The rapper talked about the new album--which will feature prominent assistance from Dr. Dre--with several reporters last week while promoting his new book. Eminem previously had tantalized fans with hints of a comeback album for months, while offering few concrete details of the record.
"For the last five months, I've been working pretty much straight with Dre," the rapper told Billboard.com. "There's going to be a lot of material, more so than I've had on an album with him producing before.
"Obviously his beats are insane but aside from that I can rap, I can write and not worry about what the beat has to sound like and how loud a snare drum is," he added. "All those things are taken care of for me. I feel like a spoiled rapper. I get to pick and choose everything."
Eminem also told a BBC interviewer recently that he has no intention of touring in the immediate future behind the album, and is only releasing it to "remind people how I rap."
"I'm not saying I will or I won't but I'm not ready to tour, at least at this moment right now," he said.
While "Relapse" still lacks a concrete release date, Interscope Records, Eminem's label, has hinted to several publications that the album might drop in December.
The rapper's memoir, "The Way I Am," hits stores this week. In the book, which his publisher calls "every bit as raw and uncensored as the man himself," Eminem writes candidly of his career and personal life, discussing both his music and his well-documented problems with relationships, including with his wife and mother.
Meanwhile, the rapper's mother, Debbie Nelson, will release her own tell-all story next month. "My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem: Setting the Record Straight on my Life as Eminem's Mother," will document the strained and often-stormy relationship between the two, and will also include rare photographs and unreleased lyrics and poems written by the young Eminem, born Marshall Mathers.
