Coldplay returns to America this summer

Following this weekend's Grammy ceremony, Coldplay will resume its world tour, which winds its way back to North America in July.

So far, the British alt-rockers have 13 US shows on the books and a stop in Toronto, though additional dates are in the works, according to a press release. The North American leg is currently set to kick off July 10 in Ridgefield, WA, and cover cities from coast to coast through Aug. 9. The outing, detailed below, is sandwiched between tours of Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. Information about overseas dates can be found at Coldplay's website.

Tickets for the stateside trek go on sale beginning Feb. 13.

Meanwhile, Coldplay is set to perform at Sunday's (2/8) Grammy Awards ceremony, where the group is up for a whopping seven trophies: Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for "Viva La Vida"; Album of the Year and Best Rock Album for "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends"; and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best Rock Song for "Violet Hill." The bandmates already have four Grammys under their belts.

Last summer's "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends," Coldplay's fourth studio album, charted at No. 1 in 36 countries, including the US, and became the best-selling digital album in SoundScan history as well as the biggest-selling album of 2008, according to a press release. The set is Coldplay's fourth consecutive studio effort to be certified multi-platinum by the RIAA, and is fast approaching 8 million units sold worldwide.

The record's lead single, "Viva La Vida," shot to No. 1 on the modern-rock, adult-contemporary and Billboard Hot 100 charts, and has been followed by Top 10 modern-rock hits "Violet Hill" and "Lost!" Coldplay's new single, "Life In Technicolor ii," is streaming at its MySpace page.

CBS-TV news program "60 Minutes" will feature a segment on Coldplay during the hour preceding the Grammy ceremony, which will be broadcast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
