'DVD Jukebox' explores Springsteen's influences

Filmmakers hungry for a slice of the Springsteen tour-buzz halo have put together a video documentary focused on a number of artists touted as influences on Springsteen's formative years as a musician.

The 150-minute project, " Bruce Springsteen 's DVD Jukebox," hits shelves Oct. 20, and focuses on Springsteen's stylistic and philosphical bent toward the music and thinking of artists including Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash, Mitch Ryder, Van Morrison and others, according to a press release.

The two-disk effort promises rare Springsteen footage and includes interview footage with early E Streeter Vini "Maddog" Lopez and Gary Mallaber, a session drummer that Springsteen tapped for service during his "other band" period in the mid-'90s.

Journalists Eric Alterman and Anthony DeCurtis, Van Morrison biographer Johnny Rogan and folk historian Ronal D. Cohen also contributed to the project.
