It's official: Living Colour [ tickets ] is back. "The Chair In The Doorway," the band's fifth studio album, was released last week, and the 11 tracks are classic Living Colour, meshing the genres of metal, funk and soul. Vernon Reid has described the album as "an unintentional concept record about life and how we are all in this thing together."

Discovered in 1986 by none other than Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones [ tickets ], the band rocketed to fame with the single "Cult of Personality" from their debut album, "Vivid," which went on to win two Grammy Awards. Today, one can see Living Colour's musical influence everywhere. Reid helped form the Black Rock Coalition, which counts among its members Ben Harper [ tickets ], Rage Against The Machine [ tickets ] and TV on the Radio [ tickets ], to name a few.

Living Colour is currently wrapping up the North American leg of its current tour, but fans can catch the group through Oct. 30, when they perform at the Highline Ballroom in New York City. Last Friday (9/25), I attended the band's performance at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco, and here are some stills from the show.
