Briefly: Willie Nelson, Cake, John Cale, Jill Sobule
Willie Nelson will sing at two concerts over the Independence Day weekend, but says he won't be able to play guitar.
Nelson is recovering from recent carpal tunnel surgery, and continues to have soreness and swelling in his left hand, he told the Associated Press on Thursday (7/1).
Nelson reportedly said that he would appear as scheduled at a Saturday (7/3) concert in Roswell, NM, as well as at his annual 4th of July picnic in Fort Worth, TX.
The release of Cake 's fifth album, "Pressure Chief," has been pushed back a month to Oct. 5 "in order to give this record release the preparation that it deserves," according to the band's official website.
Velvet Underground alumnus John Cale will issue HoboSapiens, his first album of new material in eight years, on Sept. 7.
Jill Sobule is set to issue a new album titled "Underdog Victorious" on Sept. 7. The first single, "Cinnamon Park," uses a hook from the Chicago hit "Saturday in the Park."
