Phish adds 'Joy' to repertoire

Currently in the midst of a summer tour, Phish has announced the Sept. 8 release of "Joy," the jam band's first new album in five years.

The 10-track release, produced by Steve Lillywhite (U2, Rolling Stones) and recorded this spring at New York City's Chung King Studio, will be available in three formats: a standard CD, a vinyl record and as part of "Joy Box," a limited-edition deluxe box set featuring posters, a lyric book, a live-performance DVD and a complete second album entitled "Party Time."

"In some ways, I think this one is more for our fans than any of our other albums," bassist Mike Gordon said of the new record in a press release.

Fans can pre-order any version of "Joy" now at the band's online store, Phish Dry Goods. All those who pre-order will be automatically entered to win a trip for two to Phish's Festival 8, set for Oct. 30-Nov. 1 in Indio, CA. The weekend will combine two of the group's traditions--a weekend festival and a Halloween concert--into one three-day event.

"Joy" marks Phish's 11th studio set and first non-archival release on JEMP Records, an indie label created by the quartet in 2005.

The jam band continues its summer run tonight in Chicago (8/11), stopping by theaters in four East Coast cities before wrapping with the three-day (10/30-11/1) Festival 8 later this fall.
